Acts 9:1-2 1Meanwhile,
Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He
went to the high priest 2and
asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any
there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as
prisoners to Jerusalem.
In the early days of the apostles’ witnessing
after the day of the Pentecost, people referred to believers as belonging to
the Way, and referred to Christianity as the Way… I am not sure who started
this name association, but it is interesting to me that they called it the Way.
Talking about the way; the way is not the
destination, it is the path to the destination. We belong to the way to walk in
it, so that we can get to the destination. Coming to Christ is not the end, it
is the means to getting to the desired end. John 3:16 said, for God so loved
the world, that He gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him
shall not perish, but have eternal life! Also, in John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am
the way, the truth and the life….”
Coming to Christ is the beginning of a
journey. The journey starts with Christ, and ends with Christ. It takes you the
rest of your life to walk in that way, because it is in that way that you find
the real truth. It is when you have found the real truth and you begin to walk
in that truth that you will be set free from this present world. At the end of
the journey of your life walking in that truth, you will find life. Obviously,
the life being referred to is not the existence that you have today, because
you already have that one, and why would we need to look for what we already
have? The life you will find at the end of your life’s walk in the Way is the
Eternal life promised in John 3:16 and confirmed by Jesus in John 14:6. So I
ask you; do you belong to the Way? If you do, that’s just a start. You have
keep walking in the Way, that is when you will find truth and proceed to
finding eternal life!
Hmmm...The Way, the Truth and the Life. Too often we completely miss the point and wander off. May God give us the perseverance to stay true to the Way because it is often laden with pitfalls and distractions. Great insight!
